Attrition warfare is the term used for a tactic centric method of warfare involving the deliberate engagement of the enemy resulting in continuous losses of personnel, weapons and supplies between two or more adversaries until one side is finally worn down to the point of collapse. The assumption being that the side with greater resources will eventually win.
Siege warfare (whereby a city or fort is surrounded and denied re-supply) and trench warfare are two examples of attrition warfare.
